Dumplin Valley JuneFest

Dumplin Valley JuneFest was held at the Dumplin Valley Farm June 10-12, 2010. Dumplin Valley is just east of Knoxville near Kodak, Tennessee. The festival presented a strong lineup, and included many local artists and some touring bands.

Some of these groups simply do not appear in or near Michigan, so it was a treat for us to see them. The Sowards presented a wonderful festival, we didn’t see anything but smiles all weekend.

The bands which appeared are: Jerry Butler & the Blu-J’s, Paul Williams, Greenbrier, the Bluegrass Brothers, The Expedition Show, Lou Reid, the Boxcars, Junior Sisk, the Travelin’ McCourys, the Leadbetters with Paul Brewster, Balsam Range, Barry Scott, Larry Cordle and J.D. Crowe.

Ralph Stanley, II

Ralph Stanley, II brought his band to the Kentuckians of Michigan on Friday, April 2, 2010. The show had a distinct Stanley sound, mixed in with the more country sounding songs from II’s latest CD. We had to run off early because we had our grandchildren with us, but still got some photos.

IBMA 09

We have finished posting the photographs we took during the IBMA trade show and Fanfest last week. Here is one of Miss Dixie and Tom T. Hall, when they appeared during a tribute to the Carter Family music on the Fanfest stage Saturday night. Tom T. even sang a verse on Will The Circle Be Unbroken.

Miss Dixie was highly visible all week. We attended a number of after hours showcases at the Good Home Grown Music suite, enjoying all of them. Several years ago, the Halls announced that they were including IBMA in their wills, and planned to donate the royalties from their bluegrass publishing company, Good Homegrown Music.

We couldn’t photograph everything, but we did get shots of many of the activities at the convention center, the Ryman and even a few from the Bluegrass Inn.

This one brought smiles, it is Kristin Scott Benson, just after receiving the banjo player award from her former boss, Larry Stephenson.

On Saturday, the amazingly talented Sierra Hull appeared on the Fanfest stage. There was some pretty good picking going on.

We saw the Cats and the Fiddler, a young band from our home state, and some other great groups at the Bronzewound showcase on Monday.

All in all, it was a wonderful week for bluegrass. You can see all the photos in the gallery.
