Michael Cleveland at Glass City

We were able to make a quick trip down to Maumee, Ohio to see Michael Cleveland and Flamekeeper on Friday, August 21. It was the first time we had see the group with new member Tom Adams on guitar and vocals.

The Glass City Opry was celebrating their second anniversary, what a great way to do it!

It was a wonderful show, I especially enjoyed seeing Michael and Jesse Brock perform their version Jerusalem Ridge, which has received a well-deserved IBMA nomination for Recorded Event of the Year. We’ve see them do it four or five times, and each time it amazes me more.

What a Time

The Milan Bluegrass Festival has come and gone for another year. We sure had a wonderful time watching the great acts that crossed the stage during the three day show.

The weather was perfect, not a drop of rain, and not too hot. It did get pretty dusty by the end of the weekend, but everyone seemed none the worse for wear.

There are more than 800 photos in the Milan gallery, it takes a while to look them over. I picked a few that I especially like. There are some people that always photograph well, and (drum roll…) here they are:

Jack Hicks of Summertown Road. I remember seeing Jack playing the fiddle with Conway Twitty, but he’s a banjo master these days.

This is James Richardson of the Cats and the Fiddler. One of the songs James has written was selected for the IBMA Song writer Showcase.

IMBA’s 2008 banjo player of the year, Kristin Scott Benson.

Milan Bluegrass Festival

This weekend is the annual Milan Bluegrass Festival. This show has a wonderful line-up, and is held near enough to Detroit to gather in many of the fans from that area.

Last year, just as Doyle Lawson took the stage on Saturday afternoon, Bill took a group of photos from the roof of the stage. No one picture could how the entire crowd, but here are a couple that give a little idea. You can see the white tent that covered the sound equipment, there isn’t any overlap in the photos. There was actually more crowd on both sides of these.

As he was taking that photo, Maggie took one of him, which we have been using on Facebook.

This festival is a great reunion of Michigan pickers and fans. I am expecting a great show, and lots of jamming.

Thanks to Maggie, and see you there!

Something Different

We headed out to the Little River Casino last Saturday, August first to see a band our daughter’s boyfriend is playing with right now.  (He’s the one with the sax).  The group, Voodoo Lounge, was a very authentic flashback for us children of the ’60′s.  This is a Stones tribute band you’ll want to see if you have the opportunity.

No,  really.

Here is a sample from the evening’s photos.

Special Consensus at Redford Michigan

Special Consensus performed in Redford Township, Michigan at Capitol Park on July 21st. It was a beautiful summer evening and a great show. Bill got some great shots of the band, this example is one of IBMA President, Greg Cahill.
